Executive Summary
This 5-day training program is designed to equip SACCO Board Members with the knowledge and skills to interpret and navigate cooperative laws, ensure regulatory compliance, and anticipate emerging legal reforms. The course focuses on practical understanding of the Co-operative Societies Act, SASRA guidelines, IFRS 9, AML/CFT, KDPA, and ESG requirements. Participants will learn to oversee legal risks, manage contracts, lead ethical governance, and present compliance updates effectively.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Interpret the Co-operative Societies Act, By-Laws, and SASRA Prudential Guidelines.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance across operations, reporting, and governance.
- Analyze and prepare for emerging changes in co-operative laws, including the 2025 Amendment Bill.
- Oversee legal risks, contracts, disputes, and member rights protection
- Integrate IFRS 9, AML/CFT, KDPA, and ESG into Board oversight.
- Lead ethical decision-making and conflict-of-interest management.
- Review policies, audit findings, and corrective actions from a legal perspective.
- Present compliance status and legal updates at Board and AGM
